About me
Dear reader.
I sincerely welcome you in my personal blog! Here you can find interesting, and sometimes intriruging, stories about me, and my comments on what is happening around me and/or in the world. I hope you will find the blog interesting and useful. If you have any questions/suggestions, you can leave them in comments section of the blog, or email me personally at umaraliev [at] gmail [dot] com.
Briefly about me:
Young, motivated, ambitious, easy going and hard worker… These are the adjectives that describe me best.
Was born in Aravan village of Osh region, Krygyzsan, in 1985.
Education: High school: #9 after Alisher Navoi (finished in 2002); university: Osh State University, Department of World Languages (graduated in 2007), was an exchange student in ICP department of the American University in Central Asia (2005); Masters degree in Political Science: the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (graduated in 2008).
Work experience: worked at different organizations with different backgrounds doing different job (development, human rights, international refugee protection, blogging and citizen media, etc). They include Mercy Corps International, UNHCR, USAID sponsored small projects, Global Voices Online, Transitions Online, and others. The best job I have ever done was at Neweurasia.net, a premier blogging network in Central Asia, where I worked as a coordinator of Uzbekistani blogs. (UPDATE: At the moment, I am coordinating Kyrgyzstan at neweurasia.)
Fixing for foreign reporters is also a part of my job that I do if I have got a free time, or flexible schedule. So far I have worked with McClatchy newspapers, Al Jazeera English, AFP, BBC, Stars and Stripes. Being a fixer is an extremely interesting job, as I get to know more about the hot topics in Kyrgyzstan. Unfortunately, lately, due to the too much workload, it is a bit difficult to find a free time for that.
At the moment, I am based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, but I do travel often. It may be surprising, but so far I have never been to English speaking country yet. Most of my travelings took place in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia.
Languages: Due to the ethnic diversity of Ferghana valley, I learned three different languages from my early childhood – Uzbek, Kyrgyz and Russian, and I am fluent in them. I later learned English, and still learning it, as it is a foreign language to me. So, not counting all other Turkic languages that I mostly understand, I am fluent in four languages.
Hobbies: I love playing football (soccer), read books on history, and watch Discovery channel and the Simpsons (D’oh!)
PS. The opinions expressed in this blog are personal opinions of me – Tolkun (Tulkinzhon) Umaraliev, not the opinions of any organizations or persons I am affiliated with.
PSS. For those, who might look for me in internet, my name in my passport is written as Tulkinjon Umaraliev, it is because of the conversion of Uzbek cyrillic into Russian cyrillic, as Russian does not have some sounds the Uzbek language has (here “Қ” and “Ғ”).

I looked through your blog. I read every section of your blog, and I am happy to see it. Tolkun Umaraliev is my best friend, and I learned a lot of things from him. He is a great person and likes to speak out truth. We need people, who work hard and die hard… He is one of the best Uzbek patriots of Kyrgyzstan. I am proud that I have a friend like Tolkun Umaraliev.
I can tell more and write more, but I want to say just three things about him:
- Honest and Patient
- Smart and Well Educated
- Respectful and Working Hard
Hey Tolkun,
My congratulations, good job!!! We really need people, who work hard and die hard=)…
Best regards from Germany,
yours L.

The thing is I have recently applied for the same MA program at OSCE that you graduated from.
I would really appreciate if you could give me some information about the interviews and test that applicant are expected to go through in admission process.
qanaqa savollar berishi mumkin? o`ziz experience sizdan kelib chiqib aytib bersez minatdor bulasdim
Javobingizni email orqali kutib qolaman
Hurmat bilan Umid (Uzbekistan)
Salom Umidjon,
uzr, sizni kommentingizni endi kordim
Uje bolib otgandir interview bilan test? Adashmasam Kg’da uje boldi. Agar bolgaman bolsa yanayam yahshi – ulguraman sizga yordam berishga. Suhbat davomida har hil savollar berishi mumkin, lekin eng asosiylari bu standart savollar “nima uchun OSCE Acadamy?”, “OSCE Academy’degi oqish sizni kelajakdagi rejalaringizni amalga oshirishda sizga qanday yordam beradi?” yoki “5 yildan keyin siz ozingizni qaerda va kim sifatida korasiz?”. Shu asosiy savollar. Keyin anketangizni ichidan ham savollar olishlari mumkin. Ayrim mahallarda hozirgi bolayotgan siyosiy jarayonlarga izoh bering deyishlari ham mumkin. Shu savollarga javob izlab turavering.
Omadlar! Otasiz degan umiddaman. Agar otib Bishkekka kelsangiz, menga email yozvorin, uchrshib “life in bishkek for dummies” degan lekciya oqib beraman

Hello, if you are interested in soccer, do you want to join frizbee games on Sundays?
Frizbee? I have never played it, but I would give a shot, why not?
Who is playing and where?
